Description

The U.S. Mint first issued gold coins in 1795. However, during the Great Depression in 1933, President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued an executive order banning private ownership of monetary gold. Millions of gold coins were surrendered and melted into bars, permanently reducing the number of surviving Pre-1933 coins.

Because of this mass destruction, surviving gold pieces like the $10 Liberty Eagle exist today in strictly limited supply and are prized by both collectors and investors. Each coin is a tangible link to America’s early financial history.
